Q: Wouldn't my House of Worship & their insurance company defend me for my actions as a volunteer?
A: Simply, no. All church liability policies we have reviewed explicitly exclude any "intentional act" (i.e. Only accidents are covered). The goal as a security volunteer is to be intentional and pro-active, hence the need for this coverage.
Q: Might my home owner coverage protect me?
A; No; coverage would be excluded as a business per suit, on an intentional act. Most times anything to do with a firearm is specifically excluded.
Q: Do I need to provide proof of law enforcement employment or training school for the reduced rate?
A: Yes. You just need to list the date of employment & law enforcement employer or date and name of approved training program.
Q: Why have I not heard of this type of insurance before?
A: It has not existed. We developed this to specifically fill the coverage gap and need.
Q: Who is the carrier?
A: Conifer Insurance Co, out of Birmingham, MI. Rated B++ by AM Best rating organization -- long term partner and ally to federal law enforcement & gun owners.
Q: Are there coverage exclusions that would prevent payment of a claim?
A: Yes. All policies contain exclusions. The one to be careful of is the definition of a "legally possessed firearm". Each state and many municipalities have different gun laws and they change. It is your responsibility to be sure you are legal. If you are legal, you are covered.
Q: Who are your approved training schools?
A: Click for list of approved training schools.
Q: How do I get my policy when I make a payment.
A: You will be able to download your policy immediately, unless we need to review your application further.
Q: How do I renew coverage?
A: You will receive a renewal link 90 days prior to expiration.
Q: What do I do in case of an incident or suit?
A: Call Conifer Insurance Co. 24 hour claim line. 1-877-263-6468 Ex 5102 or firstname.lastname@example.org
